Manitowoc
- Excellent, mature ecosystem. OEM parts are widely stocked by major distributors (Parts Town, WebstaurantStore, authorized dealers, General Parts, etc.).
- Common parts (probes, water valves, float switches, pumps, control boards, evaporators) ship same-day or next-day in many regions; high inventory levels.
- Large network of factory-trained/authorized technicians who know the machines well. Diagnostics on Indigo NXT models make troubleshooting faster.
- Strong warranties (typically 3 years parts, 5 years on evaporator/compressor on many models).
- Service manuals, diagrams, and support are readily available. Aftermarket boards exist but genuine OEM is preferred for reliability.
Cheaper Chinese ice makers
- Parts support is the biggest weak point. Many brands/importers have limited or no long-term parts inventory. When a compressor, board, evaporator, or proprietary sensor fails, sourcing can take weeks/months or become impossible if the seller disappears.
- Local technicians are often unfamiliar with the models and may refuse work or charge more because documentation is poor and parts non-standard.
- Warranties are shorter (often 1 year) and harder to claim, especially on direct imports. Some sellers ship “spare” parts with the machine as a hedge because they know components are weak.
- Higher-end Chinese manufacturers that supply chains (e.g., some NSF-certified factories) offer better online support and parts, but this is not the norm for the cheapest units flooding online marketplaces.
